7th Avenue N Overpass Bridge Project Begins Monday

Project Update for: 7th Ave N Bridge Over I-29

project details

April 6, 2012

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) would like to update the traveling public on the 7th Avenue North overpass bridge project. Starting Monday, April 9,the median lanes (inside lanes) on both northbound and southbound I-29 will be closed as project work gets underway. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction.

The interstate lane closures will begin south of Main Avenue for the northbound lane and north of 12th Avenue for the southbound lane. The lane closures on I-29 northbound and southbound will stay in effect until the completion of the project. There will be lane closure shifts on the interstate as needed with project work. Motorists may experience brief delays and should be aware of trucks and equipment entering and exiting the work zone on the interstate.

The interstate lane closures are needed to begin work on the overpass of 7th Avenue North. The scope of work for this project is to remove and replace driving surface on the 7th Avenue North overpass, widen the bridge to add a pedestrian crossing and reconstruct roadway on both sides of the bridge including intersections.

The project will improve the condition of the driving surface on the bridge. It will also widen the bridge to allow the construction of a multi-use path across the interstate. In addition, erosion is exposing bridge piling and this project will fix this erosion. Additional lighting will also be added.

The traveling public should use caution when traveling through the construction zone. Weather dependent, work will continue through Oct. 2012.
