A number of bridges on I-29 and I-94 will be slabjacked in 2010. These bridges include:
  • I-29
    • 17th Avenue South
    • Texas turn (going to the West Acres area from I-29 northbound)
    • 13th Avenue South
    • 9th Avenue South
  • I-94
    • Wheatland interchange
    • Kindred interchange
    • Raymond interchange

PURPOSE
Bridge decks naturally settle after being built and no longer line up as originally intended with the roadway. This settling is expected and planned for in a roadway’s plans. Slabjacking is a technique in which crews raise the bridge deck by injecting a thixotropic beneath it to lift the pavement back to its original position.

FUNDING
The estimated cost of the project is $550,000 with 90 percent federal funds and 10 percent state funds. The project will be bid out in May 2010.

START
Work will take place during the summer of 2010.
