SCOPE
In 2008, a two-year bridge project started on 12th Ave. N over the railroad tracks. The entire driving surface on the bridge was replaced and the bridge was widened to accommodate four traffic lanes and a pedestrian crossing. Approximately half of the concrete beams were replaced and the steel beams were repainted. The first year included widening the structure and completing about half of the driving surface. The remainder of the driving surface was replaced in 2009.
Work began in 2009 to reconstruct the 12th Avenue N. roadway between I-29 and 9th Street. This includes extending the four lane section across the bridge to 18th Street N.
Remaining work to be completed in 2010 includes installing curbs and ramps from the sidewalks to the roadway, striping, signal and signage work, and landscaping work.
PURPOSE
The 12th Avenue N. bridge over the railroad tracks was listed as “structurally deficient,” and this project removed this bridge from that category.
The roadway project improved driving conditions on 12th Avenue N., as well as provided greater capacity with the addition of lanes.
FUNDING
The bridge project is about $11.8 million with $9.4 million federal funds, $1.2 million state funds and $1.2 million local funds. The contractor is Industrial Builders from West Fargo.
The estimated cost for the roadway project is $10.8 million. Approximate split is 72 percent federal, 9 percent state, and 19 percent local. The contractor is Master Construction from Fargo.
START
Work will begin in April 2010.
