Traffic Shift Planned for 52nd Ave S at I-29
36th Street access to be closed
Fargo, N.D. — The North Dakota Department of Transportation has scheduled a temporary traffic shift for 52nd Ave. S just east of the I-29 interchange, beginning Monday morning, August 18. For a short distance between the east-side ramps and 31st St. S, traffic on 52nd Ave. S will be shifted north onto a temporary roadway consisting of gravel surfacing. 52nd Ave. S speeds are 25 MPH through the work zone.
This temporary traffic shift is required for crews to cut through the existing 52nd Ave. S roadway and install a new lift station. The diversion is expected to be in place all week.
Access to 36th St. S from 52nd Ave. S will also be closed on Monday morning, starting at 5:00 a.m. The closure is required so that crews can continue construction of the new interchange and frontage road configuration. The city of Frontier's connection to 52nd Ave. S will be maintained via 33rd and 32nd Streets.
NOTE: The 52nd Ave. S interchange reconstruction project will experience increased truck traffic next week, as crews remove barriers and start prepping the southbound and northbound I-29 shoulders for pavement of the new ramps. As they haul materials into the job site, trucks will need to use the temporary southbound off-ramp in the southwest quadrant if the interchange, which is the only I-29 off-ramp currently open at 52nd Ave. S. Therefore, southbound I-29 traffic will be experiencing back-up due to the congestion, and motorists are advised to allow extra time to reach their destinations. I-29 speeds are reduced to 40 MPH in the work zone.
